Towards Better Multi-class Parametric-decomposition Approximations for Open Queueing Networks
نویسنده
چکیده
Methods are developed for approximately characterizing the departure process of each customer class from a multi-class single-server queue with unlimited waiting space and the firstin first-out service discipline. The model is Σ(GI i / GI i )/1 with a non-Poisson renewal arrival process and a non-exponential service-time distribution for each class. The methods provide a basis for improving parametric-decomposition approximations for analyzing non-Markov open queueing networks with multiple classes. For example, parametric-decomposition approximations are the Queueing Network Analyzer (QNA). The specific approximations here extend ones developed by G. Bitran and D. Tirupati (1988). For example, the effect of classdependent service times is considered here. With all procedures proposed here, the approximate variability parameter of the departure process of each class is a linear function of the variability parameters of the arrival processes of all the classes served at that queue, thus ensuring that the final arrival variability parameters in a general open network can be calculated by solving a system of linear equations.

A Parametric Decomposition Based Approach for Multi-class Closed Queuing Networks with Synchronization Stations
Multi-class closed queuing networks with synchronization stations find applications in analytical models of assembly systems and production systems operating under pull control policies. These queuing networks are hard to analyze exactly and therefore approximation methods must be used for performance evaluation. In this research we propose a new efficient approach based on parametric decomposi...

We propose an enhancement to the parametric-decomposition method for calculating approximate steady-state performance measures of open queueing networks with non-Poisson arrival processes and non-exponential service-time distributions. Instead of using a variability parameter ca 2 for each arrival process, we suggest using a variability function ca 2 (ρ) , 0 < ρ < 1, for each arrival process; i...

Assembly/disassembly operations are commonly found in repair and remanufacturing facilities of aircrafts and locomotives industries. Such facilities disassemble critical equipment, inspect them to identify defective components, repair or replace selective components, and re-assemble the product back into original functionality. Efficient and timely disassembly and re-assembly of finished produc...

For given external arrival process and given service-time distributions, the object is to determine the order of infinite-capacity single-server queues in series that minimizes the long-run average sojourn time per customer. We gain additional insight into this queueing design problem, and congestion in open queueing networks more generally, primarily by performing simulation experiments. We de...
متن کاملHigher order approximations for the single server queue with splitting, merging and feedback
The performance evaluation of many modern communication and manufacturing systems has been made possible by modeling them as queueing networks. Due to the limitations of exact algorithms to analyze general queueing networks, researchers have been focusing on developing approximations. Most of the approximations are lower order approximations in the sense that only a few parameters of the intera...
